Snow Tubes and a St. Patrick's Day Mini Writing Unit

In case you don't remember all of the times I have complained about how much snow there is where I live, I will now remind you. But, this time, I wanna show you how much fun all that snow can be. There is so much of it, where I live, that we just made our annual trip to the tubing hill with my Firsties! Basically, you grab a tube, attach it to a whole bunch of other people's tubes and then slide down the hill as one big snow loving gang. Then, the best part - you don't even have to walk back up the hill, there's a lift that brings you up. What more could a lazy girl ask for? You can check the fun out here.

So, snow can be a good thing. Sometimes. I do want to go on record though that, by and large, I don't like it all. I am looking forward to Spring and I've been slowly getting ready for St. Patrick's Day. That leprechaun can end up sneaking up on ya and you find yourself not quite ready for him, so this year, I will be ready. I just finished up this writing pack - it's a mini pack, but there's just enough stuff in there to keep those little ones thinking, creating and working hard. I love short people! If you'd like it, I'll give it to the first 4 people who leave a comment.
Thanks for reading!

100 Days Finally!

100 days has come and gone and I tried to make it memorable, with a little help from my friends. I found this great idea from Julie at First Grade Critter Cafe - Mystery bags! We put 100 things in our brown paper bags (well actually that part was done at home) and then we shook and guessed and shook and guessed and swapped and recounted.

Then we walked 100 steps!

And made froot loop necklaces from Erica Bohrer's 100th Day Activities & Printables

There are great ideas in this Unit, you can check it out here.  But, here is just one of the activities from Erica's unit.
And last but not least, these are a few of my favourite 100th day books.

Whenever you celebrated your 100th day, I hope it was fun! We've made it more than halfway through the year. Have a great week.

Non Fiction Freebie and Valentine Writing

We are almost finished our Penguin unit and I have to say I am kinda done with penguins for this year. I love them and all, but I am ready to move on to Valentine's Day and then, next week - the 100th Day!
In the midst of all that furry penguin goodness, I discovered that my kids were right into the Non Fiction/Fiction aspect of our penguin books, especially when we started writing our penguin reports. At one point, I had to bring all the non fiction penguin books to the front to sort of separate them from the made up stories and that, of course, got me thinking, so I made a helpful little poster. Non Fiction style.
If you'd like a copy, just click the pic. I'll be back later in the week with the Fiction version, still working on it.

As for Valentine's Day, I decided that we needed to follow the example set in this sweet little story.
I love this story, it's so cute! I had my kids draw names for this one, they used the hearts I made below. For the first heart, they could give it to whomever they wanted, but for the second one, they had to give it to the person whose name they had picked. So fun! I'll be back later to show you their letters. Just click on the hearts for your copy.

Need another sweet V story? This one is my all time favourite. The cover pretty much says it all.

As for this week, we are going sliding - can't wait, making our Valentine boxes and celebrating! Pics to come. I'd love to hear what you are doing for Valentine's Day.

Currently and a Valentine Word Search

Today was an absolute frenzy of a day. You know those days when you have so much to do that you can't even make a list cause you don't have the time to stop and think and write one. So, yeah, that was me today and as I'm going along doing everything that needs to get done, I throw one of my kid's empty milk cartons into the garbage can instead of into the recycling. Now, to the average person, this is not a crime, but to a 7 year old whose teacher preaches recycling all the time, this was not a good move on my part. Not good at all. Here's how it played out. I'm in the middle of tidying up and so I grabbed the milk carton off a nearby desk and then whipped it into the garbage can. Didn't even give it a second thought. I turned around and there she was - she looked at me and then said disapprovingly "Miss, you're not a very good world keeper." Bang! Ouch...

So, to change the subject and make myself feel better at the same time, I am linking up with Farley at Oh Boy 4th Grade for the February Currently.
What are you Currently up to? Head on over to Farley's blog to link up!

Since it is February, I'm gearing up for Valentine's Day in my class. My kids love word searches, so I thought I would leave you with this one. Just click on the pic below to download.
I'll be back with more Valentine's fun!
